Georgia’s Lasha Shavdatuashvili wins gold at World Judo Championships Seniors in Hungary

Georgian judoka Lasha Shavdatuashvili has claimed gold at the World Judo Championships Seniors in the Hungarian capital of Budapest earlier today.

Datuashvili, 29, has handed defeat to his Swedis rival Tommy Macias in the under 73kg category.

Calling him ‘one of the most decorated judo players on the planet, the International Judo Federation (IJF) said that it ‘was not so surprising win’.

Following the victory the Georgian jodoka said ‘judo gives you special moments if you work very hard’.

I’ve been chasing this title for so many years. The reason I succeeded today is because I think of judo 24 hours a day. Now that I have the three major titles in the world of judo, I hope that the young generation in Georgia will get inspired by my career and understand that without hard work you can not win”, Shavdatuashvili told IJF.

IJF said it was time for Datuashvili’s golden score:

Datuashvili became Olympic champion twice in 2012 and in 2016. He won his first European championship in 2013.
