Georgian women’s football club goalkeeper receives offer from Italy

Tatia Gabunia, a goalkeeper for Lanchkhuti Women’s Football Club, has reportedly received an official offer from an unnamed Italian team that would mark the first transfer from the Georgian women’s league to Italy.

The Georgian Public Broadcaster said Gabunia, 21, had received the offer from a team playing in the Italian women’s league, with the next developments in their interest in the player subject of Lanchkhuti.

Playing for the western Georgian club that leads the current season of the domestic Women’s League, Gabunia is also the current first choice for the national women’s team.

Born in the town of Chokhatauri in the western province of Guria, she later joined the Lanchkhuti club, also based in the region. Her progress in the league was also noted at the national level with a selection as the first team keeper two years ago.

The public broadcaster report said Lanchkhuti was “in no hurry” to let their player leave. The club is top of the league with 28 points, seven ahead of Kvartali.

Their most recent game, against third-placed WFC Nike, was cancelled on Tuesday when the latter refused to take to the field for reasons not named by the Georgian Football Federation.
