UK minister for European Neighbourhood Morton pays 1st official visit to Georgia


UK Minister for European Neighbourhood and the Americas at the Foreign, Commonwealth and  Development Office Wendy Morton has paid her first official visit to Georgia. 

Morton has tweeted that ‘our countries are close allies and I’m delighted that our relationship is going from strength to strength.’ 

She has already met with Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani at the Palace of Official Ceremonies (former presidential palace in Avlabari) in central Tbilisi. 

Cyber security, regional issues, occupation issues and the coronavirus pandemic have been on top of the agenda, the Georgian Foreign Ministry press office has reported. 

Morton has reiterated UK support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and the country’s EU and NATO aspirations,” said the Georgian Foreign Ministry. 

Morton is scheduled to meet with Georgian PM Giorgi Gakharia, President Salome Zurabishvili, Parliament Speaker Archil Talakvadze and Education Minister Mikheil Chkhenteli. 

She will also visit the occupation line in the village of Odzisi, central Georgia.
